The Question Of The Day, How Did It Get Here So Quickly???

“The more you practice the art of thankfulness, the more you have to be thankful for.”

Norman Vincent Peale

You’ve probably already worked on your menus for the big day, or you’ve decided on going out and letting someone else do the cooking and serving—a restaurant, club house or family/friend’s house.  Whatever your occasion, make it the best ever and prepare for some fun things to do.

“Forever on Thanksgiving, the heart will find the pathway home.”

Wilbur D. Nesbit

Besides taking a nap after your meal, here are some fun activities to do either before or after, they’re inexpensive and can be applied to the whole group.

  • If you’re set on doing the big dinner, get everyone involved from setting the table, cleaning the wine glasses, polishing the silver, placing the flowers or fall foliage, preparing the cranberry sauce, swirling the gravy, pouring the wine and sparkling water, basting and carving the monster turkey, helping to serve up the scalloped potatoes, green beans, bread and butter, and guess what, eventually the clean up.
  • The guys will most likely have a football game or two on TV.  Actually, I rather enjoy football, but you have a whole of other people to think about.

  • If your family is as competitive as ours, you will find Board Games at the top of the list, such as Monopoly, Clue, Scrabble, and others.  Be sure to put out a big bowl of candy to keep everyone wired, then “let the games begin.”
  • Go to your favorite place, bundle up and take a walk.
  • If you have great weather where you’re located, try a game of touch football. If you choose not to participate, then be the referee or even a cheerleader.

  • Play charades.  Some might think this game is corny, but they are so much fun, and you can make up your own rules.  Prepare to laugh out loud.
  • Share stories, pick a theme and be certain to video record it on your phone for future holidays.  It’s called creating memories.

–the greatest day of my life,

–the best thing that happened in your life this past year,

–my favorite memory from childhood, and

–the funniest thing that ever happened to me.

  • Go to your local gift store and buy a puzzle, bring it home and lay it out on an extra table.  It becomes a continuum, because everyone will stop and try to place a piece or two.  They won’t stop until they succeed.  The grandchildren will love it also.
  • At dinner, have everyone share what they are most thankful for.

“When I started counting my blessings my whole life turned around.”

Willie Nelson

We should all pause for a moment and give thanks for this day and all that we have.  Everyone is feeling the impact of this economy and what it means to our lifestyle.  Nonetheless, we are blessed beyond measure for just being here, compared to where we were just a short two years ago.
