Being patient pays off.  It’s now the week following Labor Day and schools and colleges are back in full swing and the vacation destinations are all of a sudden more available.  Do you hear that America?  For anyone who needs a break from the day-to-day, now is the time to dust off the luggage and hit the road.

As the leaves change and the air turns crisp, fall becomes an ideal time for Boomers to embark on memorable travel adventures.  From picturesque landscapes to cultural experiences, the autumn season offers unique opportunities to explore the world, however, we have so much richness here in the United States that you should look no farther.

WITNESS THE MAJESTIC COLORS AT ACADIA NATIONAL PARK.  Acadia National Park is located in Maine and is a true gem in the fall season.  Drive along the Park Loop Road and witness the breathtaking landscapes that nature has to offer.

SERENITY AT GREAT SMOKEY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK.  Spanning across Tennessee and North Carolina, it has incredible biodiversity while immersing yourself in in the golden hues of the forest and mountain ranges.

DISCOVER THE HISTORIC CHARM OF CHARLESTON, SOUTH CAROLINA.  Rich in history and southern hospitality, the city comes alive with various festivals and events with a welcoming look into its past.  Your tour would not be complete without a walk down King Street, the city’s famous main drag.

UNCOVER NEW ENGLAND’S CULTURAL HERITAGE IN BOSTON.  The city of Boston is the cultural hub of the historic Freedom Trail while visiting world-class museums and indulging in delicious seafood.  

BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY:  NATURE’S MASTERPIECE.  It starts in Virginia and ends in North Carolina, with over 400 miles of picturesque landscapes, vibrant forests, stunning fall foliage and hidden waterfalls.  

WASHINGTON D.C.: THE SMITHSONIAN. There is no after Labor Day trip that would be complete without a visit to this beautiful city, with all its shrines, monuments, and of course, the various Smithsonian Museums.

HISTORIC ROUTE 66:  A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME.  Definitely the quintessential American road stretching from Chicago to Santa Monica dotted with nostalgic classic hotels, neon signs and roadside attractions.

GLACIER NATIONAL PARK.  Nestled in Montana’s Glacier National Park, Going -To-The-Sun Road is a must do road trip offering up towering peaks, glacial lakes, and pristine wilderness.  A truly breathless experience.

SAN JUAN ISLANDS:  A PUEGOT SOUND EXTRAVAGANZA.  Just a short ferry ride out of Seattle and Everett, Washington these islands afford true serenity and a wonderful “banana belt” climate.

THE LONIEST ROAD:  HIGHWAY 50.  Stretching across the heart of Nevada, this road trip offers a unique chance to experience the stark vastness of desert landscapes, quirky little towns and hidden gems along this less-traveled route.

SANTA FE AND TAOS.  Just a short one-hour drive north of Albuquerque, you will find the capital of New Mexico with its rich cultural history.  Breathtaking views of the San Juan de Christo Mountains, the quaint ski and art community of Taos, and the infamous museum dedicated to the incredible works of Georgia O’Keeffe.

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK.  Nestled in the Sierra Mountains, this UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts inspiring vistas, enormous granite monoliths, towering waterfalls and ancient and giant sequoia trees.

JOSHUA TREE NATIONAL PARK:  DESERT OASIS.  When night falls, experience the ultimate in other worldly star gazing to witness the beauty of the Milky Way, in addition to hiking Hidden Valley and Ryan Mountain trails with photo ops of the ancient Joshua Tree dating back 1000 years.

REDWOOD NATIONAL AND STATE PARKS:  MAJESTIC GIANTS.  This is home to the tallest trees on Earth.  Drive through the Avenue of the Giants and experience first-hand their towering heights and immense girths.  

PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY.  “PCH” is so iconic starting in San Francisco and winding its way down to San Diego, offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and sunset vistas.

THE OREGON COAST.  Some of the best kite flying in the United States.  The views of the Pacific Ocean are priceless, along with stops at Canon Beach and Haystack Rock along with the Tillamook Creamery.  Don’t forget Astoria, and the history of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

FIND SERENITY ALONG THE CALIFORNIA COAST IN CARMEL-BY-THE SEA.   Nestled along the scenic California coast, this quaint town offer mesmerizing ocean views, art galleries and boutique shops.  Be sure to explore the 17-mile drive which borders the renowned Pebble Beach Golf Course.
